In the near future, a stagnant giant typhoon, the so called Grand Roar, suddenly appeared in the West Pacific Ocean. The typhoon changed the world's climates and Earth's appearance considerably. The rising sea levels, changing ocean currents and climates caused much damage across the world, especially in Asia. Later, the disaster was called Case Omega, and it was deeply engraved in history. Fifty years have passed since the Grand Roar appeared and mankind has recovered by dint of blood, sweat and toil. Re-embracing the importance of the ocean, they enter into the second Age of Discovery. However, a dark shadow lies over this Age. That shadow is the presence of organized terrorists, pirates. To cope with the threat of these pirates, private enterprises organize their own armed self-defense organizations. For one reason or another, gun enthusiasts around the world are turning to airsoft as an alternative to paintball and BB guns. It all began in Japan, where owning any type of gun is illegal.

To keep the gun enthusiasts in Japan law-abiding citizens, the airsoft market flourished by creating all types and sizes of guns as identical replicas of real firearms. Every detail, including any trademarks, is recreated for this plastic BB shooting gun to make everything as authentic-looking as possible. They look so real that many police and military training programs around the globe use airsoft guns for training purposes. Many countries mandate orange painted barrel tips on all airsoft guns to help authorities differentiate real guns from airsoft.

Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or an old pro at airsoft, you’re going to need to buy new equipment at some point. Here are 5 tips for you to keep in mind when you’re shopping for airsoft guns.

1)Be sure that you’re dealing with a reputable company, not one that’s only been around for just a few months. A good sign is a business that has a brick and mortar location, not just a post office box. A phone number in addition to an email address is also a good sign.

2)A good selection of guns (pistols, rifles and shotguns), ammo (including BB’s and loaders), tactical gear and clothing, gas, lubricants and batteries/chargers. Keep in mind that even though you are into one particular type of gun now, your hobby might eventually lead you down another weaponry path, so it’s important to keep your options open. Kits to upgrade and maintain your current gun are also good things for your chosen e-commerce website to carry.

3) A good return policy is another thing to keep in mind while shopping for you airsoft gun. The majority of retailers do have an “All Sales Final” policy, but if your gun doesn’t work when you receive it, that’s another story altogether.

4)Make sure the website is secure. Above and beyond anything else, your security from every possible angle should be their concern, and you shouldn’t settle for anything other than the latest in Internet security. The best e-commerce sites will prominently display security badges on their homepage for the entire world to see.

5)Look for a troubleshooting section on their site. Just because the semi automatic mode on your gun doesn’t work it doesn’t mean that you need to send it in for repairs, especially if you’re somewhat of a newbie to the sport. A good company will value you as a customer and try to help you when they can. One of the best ways for a company to show you their appreciation is by saving you the hassle of a needless return.

Submarines that can fly like airplanes have been promoted in science fiction entertainment for many years. As early as the 1960s, in the Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea movie and television series, a flying sub often used for exploration, was contained in the belly of a larger submarine called the Seaview.

A futuristic craft that is both submersible and can fly has rescued James Bond from certain calamity in the movies of that genre. Of course, a submarine that can become an aircraft is still only science fiction fantasy and does not exist anywhere in the world today.

The difficulty in creating such an invention is the reason that a flying submarine exists today only in the imagination of Hollywood entertainment. The construction of such a vehicle would require material that needs to meet the unique and diverse needs of both a submarine and an airplane.

Aircraft are designed to be light and buoyant. Submarines, on the other hand, need weight to remain submerged, as well as thickness to sustain the pressure of being underwater. Differences in the densities of water and air, in velocities, and loading requirements make for aircraft and submarine design requirements that actually work against each other. It is why the Navy failed in an attempt many years ago to construct a submarine that can fly.

In 1964, the Bureau of Naval Weapons awarded a contract to Convair to examine the feasibility of a “submersible flying boat,” which was being called the “sub-plane” by those involved with the project. The Convair study determined that such a craft was “feasible” and a contract was awarded to the company but only two years later, the Navy would cancel the project.

However, The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) thinks the time is now right to have contractors bid on the possibility of making yesterday’s Hollywood science fiction a modern day reality. Darpa has a budget of 3 billion dollars and the Agency has already received bids from defense contractors in response to its Request For Proposal (RFP) to build a submersible aircraft of the future.

The Defense Agency wants to build a submersible aircraft that would combine the key capabilities of three different platforms: (1) the speed and range of an aircraft; (2) the capabilities of a boat; and (3) the stealth of a submarine. By combining the beneficial characteristics of each platform, DARPA hopes to develop a craft that will significantly enhance the United States tactical advantage in coastal insertion missions.

The proposed craft would hold eight soldiers plus all their gear and could support them in a floating surface craft for 72 hours. It would have a 1,000 mile aerial range and a 12 mile submerged range. Certainly, a flying submarine would be used to great advantage for the deployment of special operations military forces in difficult and dangerous missions.

The world is on the edge of a revolution in construction materials. Nano technology research is producing new, innovative construction material in the laboratory that is stronger than steel at a fraction of the weight.

So, the time may be right to make Hollywood’s science fiction fantasy a reality. Indeed, it is another bid by the U.S. military to attempt to build the flying submarine.

“You’ll shoot your eye out, kid!” is the infamous catchphrase from the holiday classic, “A Christmas Story”. You know the one. Ralphie wants nothing more for Christmas than a Red Rider BB gun. But every person he tells about his wish tells him the catchphrase. Alas, the happy ending includes Ralphie getting his wish, and of course, shooting his “eye out”. This section of the movie has played over and over again in the minds of gift-givers across the country, as well as any part of the world that has been lucky enough to see this flick.

If you have a gift recipient who has a BB or paint gun on their list, and you just don’t feel safe with BB’s flying around, nor are you thrilled about having tiny splotches of soap/paint all over potentially missed targets, then an airsoft gun is the perfect gift. The BB’s used are made of plastic, are significantly larger than traditional metal BB’s, and are not designed to harm anyone or anything. These traits are helping to make airsoft guns a favorite of gun enthusiasts around the globe.

To help you pick out the perfect airsoft gun for your recipient, we’ve come up with the top 4 tips to help you shop smart for your purchase. They are:

1.) Find a real company with a business address, not just a post office box. There are a lot of scam artists out there on the World Wide Web preying on unknowing, trusting customers, so making your purchase from such a company will help to ease your mind and protect your payment information. A secure site, like one with the Verisign or other type of security logo will help to keep your payment information protected.

2.) Check to make sure the company has a decent return policy. Too many times a company’s lack of return policy is found out too late.

3.) My personal favorite- a troubleshooting area on their website. This is especially important for beginners that don’t know all there is to know about these guns. Instead of spending hard-earned money shipping the product back for service (not to mention the time without the gun), a troubleshooting section will help you over the humps of the technological and basic aspects of the gun.

4.) A variety of guns for you to choose from, as well as every possible accessory (BB’s, lubricants, batteries, chargers, tactical gear, etc.) Even if you’re buying for a newbie to the industry and choose to start at the beginning with a small, basic gun, you’ll be gaining a lot of know how from (not to mention the trust you’ll get for) the company. The ability to add on and move up within the products in the same online store will yield many years of loyal service from both sides of the proverbial cash register.

While most people would think that hunting is only for serious sportsmen, recreational shooting should change their minds. Recreational shooting includes the sport of trap and skeet shooting as well as the popular paint ball and air gun variations. Sling shot shooting is also part of this category along with soft air gun shooting.

Trap and skeet shooting is the sport of shooting clay targets by using a shotgun. These clay targets are called clay pigeons and are released into the air at high speeds. Originally using live pigeons, this sport changed the targets to clay discs for a more reliable and humane target. Trap and skeet shooting equipment, include, aside from a high quality shotgun, target throwers, clay targets or discs and of course, shotgun ammunition.

Paintball shooting or simply known as paintball is a recreational shooting sport where competitors try to eliminate each other from the playing field by shooting each other with paint filled gelatin capsules. Using a compressed gas-powered gun or known to paintball enthusiasts as a marker, these paint-filled balls are shot at opponents at an estimated velocity of 300 feet per second, as per safety standards. Paintball hits are painful at any velocity or distance, hence the implementation of safety rules and gear. One safety precaution is in the mandated use of a paintball mask and goggle system. These safety accessories are usually sold as a set and may go for $24.99 to $69.99. Other equipment required for this sport include the marker and the paintballs. Markers sell for somewhere between $99.99 to $299.99, depending on the brand. Paintballs are sold at prices that range from $11.99 to 34.99, depending on the number of balls in the package.

Air guns are pneumatic guns which use compressed air to propel a projectile through the air. Air guns, more popularly known as BB guns, come in rifle configurations. These air rifles come in calibers that include .177 inch or 4.5mm, .20 inch or 5.0 mm, .22 inch or 5.5mm and .25 inch or 6.35 mm. Rifles for this sport usually come in the price brackets of $29.99 for the least expensive model to the top of the line cost of $479.99. Accessories for air guns or air rifles are gun scopes, shooting glasses and of course, ammunition pellets available according to the gun’s caliber designation.

Soft air guns are a tamer and softer shooting version of the air rifles. Airsoft, as it is more popularly called, is usually used in war simulation tactical games or war games. As with paintball, airsoft games require a certain amount of protective gear to minimize injury. Impact-rated goggles are a must for this sport and the goggles usually used for paintball is often used here as well. Soft air guns can also be used alone with stationary targets.

Slingshots have come a long way from the old wooden prong and rubber band attachment used to launch stones and other projectiles. The modern slingshot is now composed of a steel prong with a molded plastic handle. While still using the basic principle of the old slingshot, modern sling shots offer a more accurate and controlled shot. These are also sold with their own glass ammo.

Battles were fought in much the same way as in the Pre-Marius times, with the exception of the heavier use of artillery. Often before heavy infantry were sent in, a barrage of missile fire from Onagers and Ballistas (ancient artillery) were used to weaken and dishearten the enemy. As the legionnaires approached the enemy and came within thirty yards or so, they would throw a volley or two of pilum that would weaken the enemy before they engaged in hand-to-hand combat. The single lines were replaced with a three to five men line, so that the soldiers could easily rotate to replace fallen or fatigued comrades.

With improved training and uniform gear, there were, however, new formations the cohorts could transform into to meet a new situation. These were prime examples that exemplified the ingenuity and effectiveness of Roman warfare. First and probably the most famous, was the Tortoise, or Testudo. When deployed effectively, the soldiers would raise and interlock their large Scutum rectangular shields so that the entire company became a square box almost completely invulnerable to missle fire and objects dropped from above.

The Wedge was also a very important tactic used by the Romans. Small or large groups of Legionnaires could form a triangle, and then use the point to break and open a hole in the enemy’s lines. Troops inside the triangle would also help reinforce and effectively create a solid “spear point” to breach the enemy. It was very important in battles to be able to disrupt and break enemy formations, for it could very well be the difference between victory and defeat.

A skirmishing formation was also used. The normally tight lines of men would space and stagger themselves to effectively increase the apparent size of the unit. This tactic was very useful when they need to make quick attacks and retreats, or when marching over rough terrain. It also let friendly troops fall back easily through the lines if needed.

The repel cavalry stance was extremely effective and devastating to enemy cavalry. This only required two lines of men. The first line would kneel down and tightly interlock their shields to form an impenetrable wall with their pilum pointing up at about a forty-five degree angle. The line of men behind them placed their shields on top of the first lines’ at a slight slant. They would have their pilum ready to throw at the approaching cavalry. This was very effective as horsed do not willingly charge into a solid wall of shields and spear points. Instead, the horse would probably come to a halt before the line, leaving the legionnaires free to throw their pilum and massacre the enemy.

The last tactical arrangement was called the Orb, and was used as a last stance defensive formation. If any number of soldiers was separated from the rest of the army, or else they became surrounded by the enemy, they would form a tight circle with officers and archers in the center and legionnaires on the outside. This required a highly trained and disciplined army at the individual level, as this was formation often took place with a small group of soldiers during the heat of battle.

The Imperial legions of the Roman Empire represented the technological height of the army. By this time the army had fine-tuned their tactics, formations, and equipment and gear to create an unstoppable war machine. As the army gained momentum, employing a new recruitment method and furthering its power on the battle field and on society, the Roman Empire stopped its expansion and focused on defending its borders. By the end of the third century A.D., Rome’s military power had past its height, and had started to decline and struggle against the ceaseless attacks along its borders.

The gaming and tournament circuit has made an impact on airsoft guns, just as it has for paintball and regular bb guns. Creating the right atmosphere is imperative to the positive airsoft gaming experience that any player wants to have. With this in mind, your shopping list will basically make itself with just a bit of help to get you into the right frame of mind.

First things first, you’ll need to choose your gun style to create your ultimate player. Sniper rifles are a prime choice, as the actions of such a skilled rifleman are often imitated in the airsoft hobby. Pistols definitely have their following, while traditional rifle and shotgun users also have a crystal-clear home in the airsoft gun industry, as this hobby uses products and accessories that are the closest possible to the real thing.

Safety glasses, goggles, or a full-face airsoft mask are the most important of accessories. The airsoft bb travels at approximately 300 feet per second and will hurt if you’re struck by one (yes, I know this from personal experience), so you really should keep your eyes protected from the possibility of temporary or even permanent blindness. If you engage in tactical airsoft (against other human opponents), the odds of a bb flying past your face is significantly higher than if you’re shooting parallel to a fellow airsoft enthusiast at a target 40 feet in front of you.

Tactical vests are a “must-have” for any airsoft devotee who can’t remember which pocket they put their co2 cartridges, bb’s and loaders into while out in the field, or just anyone who likes to have lots of places to keep their smaller-sized airsoft paraphernalia within an arm’s reach at all times. Hidden inner-pockets are quite common on the sleeveless jacket style, while the harness-type of vest boasts a lighter, less bulky version that has plenty of room for your ammo, water bottle and snack. Please note that even though the sleeveless jacket style will help to protect you from accidental (or intentional) bb bruises, the harness version offers hardly any protection. In this case, a combat vest might be a wise investment to wear out onto the battlefield.

If you’re really a fanatic about airsoft, there are a few more interesting items that just might be of interest. For the airsoft snipers, a Ghillie suit is “the” type of camouflage worn most often in real world combat. Two caveats to keep in mind regarding this type of gear: one is that the suit itself is relatively heavy and warm and the second is that most airsoft “soldiers” won’t be shocked to see a 6’ tall running bush, so don’t think that you and your new-found tactical ensemble are really fooling anyone.
