This morning we noted in our survival kit for extreme cold, after our friend Dr. Lisa Clough of the National Science Foundation at the rink, climbing on a Hercules LC-130, 3 hours and flew inside the South Pole. For decades, the Hercules fleet has been the backbone of the reliability program U. S. Antarctica, and enjoyed sitting on the flight deck of the old war-horse with the pilot and co-pilot, as we climbed in Antarctica.
