Honolulu Senior Elections Clerk Says Barack Obama was Not Born in Hawaii
This past Wednesday, World Net Daily published a story on the internet, saying a man who was a grad assistant at Western Kentucky University last semester, claims President Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii. That man is Tim Adams who was the Senior Elections Clerk for the city and county of Honolulu during the 2008 presidential election.
But Adams says even though Obama may not have been born in Hawaii, he is still a U.S. citizen.
GENE: “So let me understand what you’re saying. There is no long-form birth certificate, because he was not born on U.S. soil.”
ADAMS: “Correct.”
GENE: “But there is a Certification of Birth, which is what this is.”
ADAMS: “A facsimile of it has been put online.”
GENE: “Yes, and in your opinion, this means regardless of where he was born, he was a U.S. citizen at birth.”
ADAMS: “Yes.”
And Adams believes racism and political rancor keep stirring up this controversy.
“It’s a question of race,” says Adams. “They don’t like having someone who’s not white, or they don’t like someone who’s from such a different heritage as President Obama, because his family has ties to Africa. His family also has ties to middle America, so to me it’s also a non-issue. The other thing is he is a liberal, he’s a Democrat. There’s a lot of political rancor in the country in the last decade, starting with President Bush, and then we had 9/11. We’ve had the wars overseas. And this entire fight between the Left and the Right has become so vulcanized that anything someone finds, they say, ‘Oh look, he lied about being born inside the United States. There must be something terrible there!’ But they’re extrapolating something that’s not true.”
Adams says the solution to the unrest people feel in the U.S today is to “notch down the bitterness… and remember that we are all one nation of people.”

Antiwar.com quotes Ellsberg as saying: “We have after all for the time first time … we have a president who has announced that he feels he has the right to use special operations operatives against anyone abroad, that he thinks is associated with current threats. … I think it is astonishing that an American president should have put out that policy and he’s not getting resistance from it from Congress, the press, or anything,” Ellsberg said.
Army Spec. Bradley Manning is already under investigation for making the video available to Wikileaks.
Update: A New York Times article Saturday notes, “In 17 months in office, President Obama has already outdone every previous president in pursuing leak prosecutions.”
Scott Shane reports for the Times that the “Obama administration is proving more aggressive than the Bush administration in seeking to punish unauthorized leaks” and that “[h]is administration has taken actions that might have provoked sharp political criticism for his predecessor, George W. Bush, who was often in public fights with the press.”
Steven Aftergood, head of the project on government secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists, who has long tracked the uneasy commerce in secrets between government officials and the press, said Mr. Drake might have fallen afoul of a bipartisan sense in recent years that leaks have gotten out of hand and need to be deterred. By several accounts, Mr. Obama has been outraged by some leaks, too.
“I think this administration, like every other administration, is driven to distraction by leaking,” Mr. Aftergood said. “And Congress wants a few scalps, too. On a bipartisan basis, they want these prosecutions to proceed.”
