Tragedy had hit our group, our cook Dahl became deathly ill. The only way to save his life was to cross the flooded Brahma Putra River. As we watched army trucks sink under the swift current. The possibiity of crossing was impossible. Our plan was to go across and head for Mount Kailash, trek down the backside of Tibet into Nepal. But during this time there was much Political Unrest between the Moaists and the Nepali. Lots of gun fire…so we were forced to turn back…in hopes that our cook and friend Dahl didn’t die: before we were able to get him into the hospital.

The conditions were growing worse as the cyclones still were striking hard the way we just came…Running on pure energy…we turned around and returned the way we came.
