What are the safeguards put in place to protect the individual from the tyranny of the State?

I can only think of these:

A person may not be arrested without a warrant, unless he is caught breaking the law.

A person may not be prosecuted twice for the same offence or made to be a witness against him/herself.

What else? Thanks

I’m sorry, I was thinking your question asked, "In what way are individual freedoms being eroded?"

Yeah, I learned all that stuff in school about the "Bill of Rights" and actually there are over a hundred amendments to the US Constitution, with all these "protections". (I think) The British don’t actually have a Constitution -per se- in the same way, but a system of "precedents" -to my understanding, but it works out simillarly.

HOWEVER, I think a lot of it –a WHOLE lot of it– is only only cosmetic! They pretend to have all these freedoms, and they teach you all about them in school, and yet in the real actual world in which you live, they are being eroded moment by moment –as we speak.

I’ll admit, that sometimes courts do rule in favor of an "underdog" –if he can afford to even GET to a court. Truth is : administrations pack the courts with folks they trust to "vote their way".

Look at Pakistan, don’t like the judges opinions about the legality of your decisoions..you just CHUCK them.

Zimbabwe, you overstay your legal mandate –several years– and the are voted OUT anyway, and you send groups of armed thugs to throw the rightful owners of the land off, and even allow them to kill the occupants, and all the employees to go hungry because they’ve also lost their jobs. In so doing, you’ve also broken the back of the only industry that WAS keeping the country alive the successful agriculture, run by those who knew how to make it work. So the judges speak up..finally.. and say, "Thus far and no furthur!" and you turn around and say, in the purest of hypocritical audaciousness, "Oh our police won’t be able to protect the judges if they say that!" or as they say in Sicilian Brooklyneese: "He-sa no do-a like Papa Gambino say –He-sa gonna sleepa widda fishes!"

All this to say, "It ain’t necesarrily so!" These freedoms though they look altruistic on paper are not necessarily much help in the real world at all, because the octopus of state control has his tenlcles so well wrapped between you and these high-sounding "protections"

I might add that they often (constitutional protections) often end up aiding and abetting the criminals, and those other scoundels who happen to be able to afford a scruple –less lawyer.

Jesus had plenty of "State Protections" in place to keep Him from being condemned as an innocent man, but they didn’t, and He was!

Times may have changed a bit since then, but the heart of man is still just the same. "desperately wicked..who can know it?"
